3 on 3 Basketball League-2nd & 3rd Grade Division Boys & Girls
The 3-on-3 youth basketball program is designed to develop individual skills and basic fundamentals of the game, but in a team setting by placing fewer players on the court at one time.
5 on 5 Basketball League-4th, 5th & 6th Grade Division. Boys & Girls
The 5 on 5 youth basketball program is designed to develop individual skills and basic fundamentals of the game .
- Games are played either at East Alton Keasler Complex or Roxana Community Gym. Games will be played on week nights and Saturdays. No team registrations.
- Free Throw Competition: Each participant receives 5 free throws prior to each of their regular scheduled games. Awards will be given to 1st and 2nd place winners of their grade: 2nd grade boys, 2nd grade girls, 3rd grade boys and etc.
- Includes: 10 game schedule, free throw competition, shoot-out and league shirts
Registration runs from September – November 13. The fee is $35.00 per participant which includes a t-shirt. Games begin in December.
Instructional Youth Clinic Basketball Program For Kindergarten & 1st Graders Registration Form Schedule

This is a 4-week program designed to teach the fundamentals of the game of Basketball (i.e. dribbling, passing, shooting, teamwork, etc.)

The Wood River and Roxana Recreation Departments offer an Instructional Soccer program. Children ages 3-4 are invited to participate. This is a family oriented program requiring all children registered to have a parent or guardian present to participate with the child. There will be 35 minutes of drills followed by a 10 minute game. The registration fee is $25.00 and includes a t-shirt. Watch for registration in February & March. The Instructional Soccer program is scheduled to begin in April.

East Alton, Roxana and Wood River have joined together once again to form a Soccer League. children ages 5-13 are invited to participate. The registration fee is $35.00 and includes a t-shirt. Instructor George Manns offers karate instruction for all ages. Classes will be on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:00-9:00 p.m. They are taught at the Recreation Shelter at 14th St. in Wood River. For more information, please call George at 465-5904
This is a great way to improve your child’s strength and coordination levels. Classes are held from August thru May.
Parent & Tot: 2-3 year olds
Parent and tot class is the perfect way to see if your child would enjoy gymnastics. This 45 minute class is loosely structured and designed to get little ones acquainted with the equipment, terminology, and Miss Lindsey. Each class starts with a fun stretch and ends with the “good-bye song” so children know what to expect. Parents are highly involved while instructors are there to guide parents and children to new skills and perfect other skills.
Early Tumblers: 4-5 year olds
Early Tumblers is a class designed to teach gymnastics skills to 4-5 year olds and promote independence. In this 45 minute class, kids will learn forward and backwards rolls, walk on balance beams, practice gross motor skills and more. Early Tumblers utilizes stations where each child works on a skill alone, with each instructor teaching a skill. They get to know the magic word “switch” and practice following arrows to change stations. There are times when the class is asked to stand in line and learn to wait, an important life skill.
Beginners (6 & Older):
Whether your child has never done gymnastics before or has completed the Early Tumblers program, this class is going to be fun! These skills will get your child ready to move on to the Advanced Beginners class. Instructors are well trained and can challenge all students each week. Each class utilizes stations as well as sharing with another child. We promote safety as the most important component of gymnastics followed by fun and form! This class is 60 minutes of non-stop moving.
In this class we will focus on:
- walking confidently on a beam
- understanding a pullover on bars
- how to jump on a spring board
Advanced Beginners (6+ with approval of instructor)
Advance Beginners is an open ended class designed to continue to push and challenge all kids. Those enrolled must have approval of instructor so the child is placed properly and challenged at their appropriate level. This class is 60 minutes.
We will focus on:
- perfecting handstand rolls
- perfecting round offs
- bridge kick-overs,
- starting handstands on balance beam
- push to do a pullover alone on the bar
- start on handstand flat back for vault.

SUMMER DAY CAMP: Registration Form 2016
The Recreation Department will once again have a Summer Day Camp for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. Day Camp is held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., June 5, 2017 thru July 14, 20117. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED IN PERSON. Registration runs from February 1-June 1. A limit of 50 children will be accepted. Cost: Wood River Residents-$150 per child Non-Residents – $170 per child.
*$10 will be taken off the price of each additional child registered by parent or guardian*
A FREE fishing clinic will be offered this summer at Belk Park. There will be a morning session from 9:00-11am & an afternoon session 1:00-3:00pm. This is a free clinic for all ages. The clinic will run for one week in the summer. Registration is required to participate and runs from May 1st – May 31st. Class size is limited to 30 participates. CHEERLEADING CAMP: Registration Form
Be a cheer ahead of the game. A cheerleading camp will be offered July 17th – July 21st, 2017 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the Round House. This camp will involve sideline cheers, a floor cheer and assistance with mounts. 4th through 8th grade students are invited. Registration runs from May 1st – May 31st. The fee is $25.00 for the camp.
JR. CHEERLEADING CAMP: Registration From
Come and learn your favorite cheer. K-3rd grade students are invited to attend a cheerleading camp where they will be introduced to the fun of cheerleading.
